Focus = impact
When "Dunkirk" director, Christopher Nolan, was asked what he was trying to do with the film, his answer was startling:"I didn't want to tell the story of the characters. The problem is not who they are, who they pretend to be or where they come from. The only question I was interested in was 'will they get out of it?' "
It's a good lesson in focus.
Or as one writer replied when asked for his best advice to aspiring writers:
"Tell the damn story!"
Dunkirk is the story of the mass evacuation of Allied troops from France while being fired upon from air, sea and land.
It was a desperate dash for freedom with no guarantee of success.
Will they make it? That's the story.
